TUESDAYS, 6PM to 9PM
JANUARY 31 to MARCH 27, no class February 21 (8 sessions)
Have you never wondered what “experimental animation” was?
Yeah, it sounds a little weird, maybe a little academic... but don’t worry, it’s just a nerd term for animation made using a variety of techniques, or telling a story in a unique or unusual way.
Sure, there’s talking animals and fairy princesses. There’s The Simpsons and Family Guy. BUT! Did you know there’s people out there making animation with paper puppets, with soap and sand, Legos and Rubik’s Cubes... with pipe cleaners, dryer lint... even raw meat?
Did you know YOU can make animation with ink and paint, with flashlights, with your own body? You can make animation with a webcam, with your cell phone... you can make animation without using a camera at all!
YOU can make animation yourself--come find out how!
Intro to Experimental Animation is an eight session class where we’ll explore time-based storytelling and basic animation principles using a variety of techniques, and collaborate to produce an animated film as a group.
This is a class for: comic book nerds, videogame addicts, film school snobs, artsy fartsy types, anime freaks, anyone who’s ever made their own claymation video in their basement using their parents’ camcorder and an ancient VCR, anyone who owns the entire Futurama DVD series (and watches it with the Director’s Commentary)...
...and especially, anyone who carries an unspoken, burning desire buried deep within their heart to make their own cartoons but have been too intimidated by a self-diagnosed lack of “artistic talent” to act on one of their most sacred and profound creative dreams... YES, YOU CAN MAKE ANIMATION! Join us and see!
